We have a new, temporary house guest who desperately needed a soft bed. I used an old blanket from the depths of the linen closet, some natural muslin I had lying around and some pillow filling from projects long ago.
I made a big pillow case and stuffed it.
Then I added some (quite ghetto) personalized lovins.
Test run.
I'm pretty sure he likes it.
SUCCESS.

Repurposed Earrings
I bought these funky owl earrings in Guatemala. The silver hook part that inserts into the ear was rusted and kinda gross, so I had to replace them. I needed small rings to loop through the earrings themselves first, so I took apart a silver earring (shown) and used 2 rings from it. I lost the other silver earring riding my bike last summer and couldn't part with the other. (they were my very favorite pair for a long time) I decided to make the parts of one earring into 2 earrings by inserting a ring (in the larger earring) and added brand new, matching hooks. Ta da! A new pair.
Vegan Pumpkin Bread with homemade tangerine/ginger icing
Holiday baking season is upon me. I originally got inspired by the pretty bread pan (see below) I bought at Williams Sonoma. Then I went on a search for a vegan/whole grain/low sugar recipe. I had never baked with whole wheat flour before! This recipe includes flax seeds too! It's so so yummy and you dont even have to feel that guilty eating it!

Salvaged Carpet Bag
This is my very first attempt to make anything like this. I have been wanting to create a reusable bag for ages out of salvaged/recycled materials. I have about 10 Publix and Whole Foods reusable bags, but I wanted a special one.
I had 2 vintage dining room chairs, and when they fell apart I couldn't imagine throwing away their seat covers/upholstery. So I took the fabric off the wooden seats, (which was a grueling and kinda gross task) washed them, and saved them.
This bag is made from 2 vintage upholstery seat covers and 1 pair of corduroy pants from my closet.
The inside is made from the vintage fabric leftover from my adorable cafe curtains and a scrap piece of vintage cotton/blend all from my friend Jerry.

Carly's Wedding Magnet
I made this refrigerator magnet for my sister's bachelorette party gift.
The quote is from her favorite poet, Pablo Neruda.
See the whole poem here.
cookies!
I made the most incredible (if I do say so myself) cookies for a big vegetarian pot luck dinner at our apartment this past weekend.
~Macaroons, chocolate chip macaroons, and vegan choc chip/oatmeal/coconut cookies...mmmm delicious.
(not pictured but must mention- vegan coconut/carrot butternut squash soup I made that night too turned out a-mazing)
